Pavel Alvarez

Painter | Art Brut

Cuba (1978). Pavel Álvarez is a Cuban artist born and raised in Havana. His artistic journey began at the age of 29, though his passion for drawing and sculpting dates back to his childhood. His early fascination with drawing red spheres is a recurring theme that has intrigued him in retrospect.

Álvarez’s art is deeply rooted in social commentary, as he aims to expose human suffering and societal ills. His work draws inspiration from a diverse range of artistic movements, resulting in a unique style that bears similarities to Art Brut. However, he avoids strict categorization, allowing his art to explore a broader spectrum of expression.

His artistic career has been marked by several group exhibitions in Havana, as well as a solo exhibition titled “Rasgos Coloniales” (Colonial Features). This solo show introduced him to the techniques of creating criollo half-points and ogival arches, which became foundational elements in his early works. He also created a triptych exploring the theme of envy, a personal experience that has profoundly shaped his life.

Born on December 12, 1978, Álvarez, now 45, remains dedicated to his art. He continues to create and exhibit his work, driven by a desire to make a lasting impact on the art world.
