Ira Kononenko

Visual Artist | Landscape Painter

Cuba (1987). Ira Kononenko is a visual artist and landscape painter based in Havana. Between 2010 and 2016, she lived and worked in Spain before returning to Cuba. She holds a degree in Visual Arts and a master’s degree in Contemporary Symbolic Production and Sociocultural Mediation from the University of the Arts (ISA).

Her practice brings together analog photography, alternative photographic processes, manual interventions, and installation using reclaimed materials. These elements operate in close dialogue with landscape and botany, emphasizing process, materiality, and site-specific relationships. Kononenko has participated in numerous exhibitions both in Cuba and internationally, and has led workshops focused on analog photography and experimental image-making techniques.

Her ongoing research investigates sensory and material strategies for reconfiguring the relationship between culture and nature.
